WITNESS TRAINING

QSI's team of consultants has over a century and a half of combined regulatory experience, providing testimony and advocacy before state commissions in countless contested proceedings. Given this vast experience, QSI is highly qualified to offer its services in the area of witness training. QSI has worked with public utility commissions and their staffs as well as private sector clients to assist these clients in developing and improving the skill sets of their expert witnesses.

QSI offers witness training sessions that are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the client. These sessions can be used to prepare experts for their first time on the witness stand, or, to hone the skills of more experienced witnesses in preparation for important proceedings. Typically, QSI's witness training sessions include the following:

  • An overview of the administrative hearing process
  • An overview of basic witness survival skills
  • An explanation of the process of developing and defending pre-filed written testimony and exhibits against hostile cross examination
  • Two video taped "mock cross" sessions. Each session is followed by a "critique" session in which the participant benefits from feedback (in the form of constructive criticism) from the instructors
  • Identification of the traits of a "credible and effective" witness
  • Development of techniques that allow the witness to control cross examination
  • Advanced witness strategies
  • The identification of the strengths and weaknesses of each participant
